Istanbul is the largest metropolis in Turkey. Its population is over 11 million people, out of which 75% of the population is Turkish while other ethnic groups include the Kurds, Armenians, Jews and Greeks. Almost 99% of the population is Muslim and a large percentage of population is under 35 years. The manufacturing and service industry are the largest employment sectors with men making up the major work force in almost all sectors except in the education and medical related sectors. Most women play the traditional roles of parent and homemaker. Family life in Istanbul reflects traditional values of marriage, children and male domination.
