GOLF AND STAY PACKAGE: Get in the Swing at the West Point Golf Course
Pack your bags and head to the historic Thayer Hotel for a relaxing stay and memorable day on the links. The 18-hole West Point Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, ASGCA, is one of the most scenic courses in the Hudson Valley. Narrow fairways, water features, doglegs, and greens combine to make a great course that’s sure to test your shot-making skills.
Whether you bogey or birdie, views of the ramparts of the famed United States Military Academy are sure to give your game a lift. So many presidents, generals and dignitaries have swung clubs here it’s impossible to list them all. But don’t let that make you nervous—even military heroes have been know to slice balls into the trees.
Set in historic woodsy hills of the Hudson Valley, the course opened in 1948 and features 6,007 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70. The course rating is 68.6 and it has a slope rating of 126. In honor of its prestigious location, each hole is named after a notable military campaign. West Point Golf Course, a four-time host of the Patriot League Championships, also features a large clubhouse and top-of-the-line pro shop.
On or off the fairway, you can’t help but leave the outside world behind and enjoy all that West Point has to offer: superior surroundings and service. Steeped in American history The Thayer Hotel is the only hotel located on an active military installation and is the perfect place to overnight before your next day’s tee time. Here you’ll enjoy a great meal at MacArthur’s Riverview Restaurant where the menu, extends far beyond meat and potatoes. (Who needs the History Channel when you have the Hudson Valley in your back yard?)

Untold treasure from America’s storied past are waiting to be discovered and enjoyed on the banks of the Hudson River in the majestic Hudson Valley. A stay at the historic landmark Thayer Hotel puts you at the heart of the action: within the boundaries of the scenic United States Military Academy at West Point .   From the moment you enter the grand South Gate entrance, you will be filled with a sense of pride and wonderment. George Washington called for the building of a fort here in 1778, and today, West Point stands as living monument to everything the Founding Fathers stood for. Beautiful memorials commemorating historic events and towering patriotic heroes are everywhere here. The words “Duty, Honor, Country” are inscribed in a magnificent panel of stained glass inside Cadet Chapel, just one of the many reminders that West Point holds a singular place in America’s heart and history
Best of all? Visitors can learn about the rich history of West Point on an inspirational walking tour and at the West Point Museum. Here’s where you’ll see the British drum surrendered at Saratoga, George Washington's pistols, field glasses used by General G.K. Warren at Gettysburg and the last message sent by George A. Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn displayed and more. Another must see spot is the thrilling Cadet Chapel: a Gothic church built in 1910; it stands as a major architectural achievement. Inside, marvel at the 192-glass stained windows and the largest pipe organ in the world housing 23,000 pipes.
One of the highlights of staying at West Point is the fact that it’s an active military academy. While you’re here, stroll over to the sprawling parade grounds: here’s where the Corp of Cadets, some 4,400 strong, march in formation. Up on Trophy Point, a glorious scenic overlook, get a glimpse at Battle Monument, erected in 1897 in honor of Civil War veterans, it’s one of the largest columns of granite in the world. Nearby, you’ll also find artillery equipment on display spanning from the Revolutionary War to the Spanish-American War.
