Rotana opens budget hotel in Dubai

July 8 - A new breed of three-star budget hotel, the Centro Hotel by Rotana, beckons summer guests with low rates to experience what Rotana says is a five-star feel.

“We launched the brand back in 2006 with the intention of creating a bold new genre, a lifestyle hotel brand offering finesse and functionality at reasonable prices,” said Omar Kaddouri, chief operating officer, Rotana.

The Centro Barsha is a bold example — its unassuming seven-storey exterior reveals an interior to be noted. The ‘courtyard’ lets in plenty of light and the design is fresh, inviting and chic at the same time. It’s hard to miss the quirky twist right through to the rooftop, where the pool and shaded seating areas are arranged in an interesting setting, think pebbles and plants.

“We want people to feel like they are walking into a five star, sensing happiness and wanting to return,” Kaddouri explained.

Major development is set to take place here over the next decade to cover all five southern atolls that are currently off-limits to non-permit-holders. Safari boats are regularly exploring dive sites as far south as the Huvadhoo Kandoo (famously known as One-and-a-Half-Degree channel), and sur...

Hoan Kiem Lake

Hoan Kiem Lake is the center of the city both literally and figuratively. The lake is the city's most popular strolling ground and large groups can be seen in the mornings walking or jogging along the lake or taking part in tai chi exercises. In the middle of the lake is Thap Rua, or Tortoise Tower a three-storey pagoda built in the 18th century. Turtles can be seen basking at the temple's base; w...

Panteao Nacional (National Pantheon)

Lisbon, Portugal

While intended to be a church, this structure now pays homage to the heroes and heroines of Portugal including explorer Vasco da Gama and fadista Amalia Rodrigues. While the outside of the structure is porcelain white, the dome within, being all pink marble and gold lining, resembles a Faberge egg. Like most of Lisbon’s attractions, this one also boasts a brilliant view of the river. Address: Ca...

Darling Harbor

Darling Harbor

Sydney, Australia

This gorgeous strip on the harbor is always buzzing and full of energy. The numerous restaurants, shops, and bars have caused it to become a tourist magnet. Yet, this does not imply this harbor is not enjoyable. On the contrary, it offers pleasant walks, tasty (and reasonably priced) dining venues with views to the harbor, and a booming nightlife that ranges from casual to posh. Transport: City...
