Water park to be constructed on Yas Island

June 15 - Aldar Properties said on Sunday that it would establish a water park on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, at an estimated cost of Dh40 billion.

The park will span over 16.4 hectares and will have over 40 rides and attractions including four rides that have never been featured in a water park before.

Aldar has already received the planning approval from the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council and has hired Atkins (a UK-based company) to design the project. Atkins has started the pre-qualification process for the contractors and construction is slated to begin next month. The project will be completed by 2012.

The park will be yet another addition to the various attractions on the island including Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the first Ferrari theme park in the world, to be opened on October 28.
