Medical tourism revenues exceed US$ 1 billion in Jordan

altDr. Awni al-Bashir, the head of the Private Hospitals Association of Jordan, stated the country attracted about 220 thousand Arab and foreign medical tourists out of which 45 thousand were serviced at Jordanian hospitals.

He added that the total income from medical tourism exceeds one billion dollars.

President Bashir affirmed the need for agreements between Jordanian and Arab institutions to secure the provision of medical services to patients and to prevent any problems when patients arrive to seek help individually.

He called for the establishment of travel agencies that would be involved in bringing medical tourism, and to allow them to have necessary insurance from when the patient leaves their country until they return. Al-Bashir noted that the health sector attracts patients from many Arab countries as well as from America and Europe because of the competitive advantage the country provides, in terms of quality, outstanding medical talent and relatively competitive costs.
