Louvre Abu Dhabi: sneak peek into the museum of the future
The Louvre Abu Dhabi is still a work in progress. The museum is not going to open to the public until 2015. But that has not stopped its organizers to give visitors a taste of what is to come. "Birth of a Museum," is an exhibition taking place at the Saadiyat Island - Manarat al Saadiyat, Cultural District in Abu Dhabi.
Birth of a Museum is an exhibition displaying about 130 items that have been acquired by the museum since 2009 most of them never exhibited before - the exhibition will give an insight into the core principles that underpin the creation of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
Birth of a Museum which was supposed to end on July 20 will continue until August 24 2013. Opening the exhibition throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan (Ramdan timings: 10am to 2pm and 8:30pm to 11:30pm) and the summer holidays provides one last chance for visitors to experience Louvre Abu Dhabi’s preview of its collection.
Once complete, the Louvre Abu Dhabi will showcase art works from great civilisations from the most ancient times to the contemporary identifying Louvre Abu Dhabi as the first Universal museum in the region. It will also have regualr exhibitions of works loaned from the Louvre and other museums in France.
