June 6 - Fishing licenses will be issued only to people who have a residency visa and are currently living in Dubai, according to a senior official from the Dubai municipality.   People who wish to go recreational fishing must first get a license from the municipality whether it is to fish on the coastline or in leisure boats.

Engineer Mohammad Abdul Rahman Hassan said “A fishing license is a requirement for individuals prior to conducting [any] fishing activity. The fishing license will be given only to those who have their residency visa issued in Dubai and are living in Dubai.”  Hassan is Head of the Marine and Environmental Protection section at Dubai municipality. He explained those who have their visas issued from another emirate and are living in another emirate will not be able to get a fishing license, and further, “even if the residency visa was issued in Dubai no fishing license will be given if the person is living in another emirate.”
