Discover the making of a Royal Bisht - gold embroidered Arab cloak

The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi is holding a number of cultural programs at Qasr Al Muwaiji in Al Ain between October 23rd and December 26th, in celebration of the emirate’s cultural heritage.

Qasr Al Muwaiji’s programs include a number of weekly and monthly workshops, on topics such as archaeological excavation and the art of making the Royal Bisht (Arab cloak), which will enable participants from all ages to learn about Emirati crafts and traditions in greater detail. The workshops will introduce visitors to recent restoration works taking place at Qasr Al Muwaiji and raise awareness of the project itself.

Participants will be able to learn all about the Royal Bisht and its manufacturing techniques through bi-monthly workshops facilitated by experts in Bisht making, with the workshop also including an opportunity to have a closer look at the varied collection of Al Nahyan Family’s bishts.

Qasr Al Muwaiji is considered to be one of the main cultural destinations in the Al Ain area. It is the birthplace of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. The palace contains an exhibition of historical photographs and interactive digital screens that recount the history of the building, its residents and the archaeological history of the Al Ain area.

Al Ain is home to many museums each with their own unique story to tell, including Qasr Al Muwaiji, Al Ain National Museum, Al Ain Palace Museum and Al Jamila Fort.

All programs are free of charge and open to all ages.
