Etihad Airways Signs $14bn Engine Deal

ImageEtihad Airways closed one of the biggest, most far reaching engine deals in the history of airlines at the Paris Air Show Tuesday. The engine deals include long term service contracts and are worth up to $14 billion (Dh51.41).  The new deals underscore the importance of the Gulf Region in global aviation.  While it is estimated the industry will lose an estimated $9 billion, airline performance in the region has been steady with large order books.

Etihad Airways said Engine Alliance, GE Aviation, International Aero Engines, and Rolls Royce will be engine partners in delivering the 100 aircraft they ordered last year at the Farnborough International Air Show in the UK.  Etihad ordered the aircraft from Boeing and Airbus.  Chief Executive for Etihad Airways said “The new aircraft and the engines that will power them are scheduled for delivery between 2011 and 2020.”
