Bangkok has a large population of 9 million people. This figure is composed of ethnic Thai locals and a large number of now settled Chinese and Indian immigrants. Buddhism is the major religion but Islam, Hinduism and Christianity are also practiced by some of the residents. Thais are deeply religious as well as superstitious and Buddhist temples and sites are visited frequently for good luck and fortune. They also revere the Thai royal family taking part in ceremonies and festivals honoring its members. At the same time they are fun loving, always looking out for new restaurants and clubs as well as shopping arcades. Many enjoy a high standard of living since Bangkok is the financial capital of Thailand and since the tourist industry brings in a lot of income and economic/ employment opportunities.
