Hamara Karachi Festival (10-18th January):
This festival was celebrated for the first time in 2007. It marked 60 years of the independence of Pakistan and the development of Karachi in these 60 years. Karachi, that has transformed from a small town at the time when Pakistan was created, into the large bustling city of today, has seen many eras of development. The festival was held to revive the glory of the days gone by and to celebrate the ongoing developmental works in Karachi. It was organized by the City District Government. Activities included food festivals at the Burns Road food street, processions through the Saddar area, and a final event at the KMC Building on M.A.Jinnah Road on the night of 18th January. The building was brilliantly lit up and there was a breathtaking fireworks display.
The Festival was not held in the year 2008 due to the delicate political situation in the country soon after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto on the 27th of December 2007, and the uncertainty of the election which was initially supposed to be held during January 2008.
