What to do with Children in tow
A thorough exploration of the Canterbury Museum is a must. Take a ride up the Avon River in an enclosed gondola while you take in the beauty of the Garden City. The gondola ride takes you up all the way to the summit of the Port hills from where one can look down at the beautiful city and its settlements. Two way journeys are usually in a packaged deal with dinner or with a tram ride or a walk around the hills.

Lollipop’s playland and café
An all time favorite attraction for children is the Lollipop Playland in the South of the city. The play place is full of soft playing material like castles, building blocks, animals, climbing toys and ball pits.

Education and entertainment, all under one roof is offered by the Science Alive, an interactive scientific center visited by adults and children alike. The center teaches science in a fun way by making children play games and learn about the formation of tsunamis, about chemical reactions and by visiting various fun exhibitions. Apart from these in house activities, Science Alive also holds exhibitions in schools as part of their outreach program that focuses on hands on knowledge.

Jellie Park Aqualand
On warm sunny Christchurch days, take out your children to this outdoor amusement park for a day full of excitement with water games, outdoor swimming, water slides and secluded family picnic areas for privacy. The Aqualand offers a retreat for families to enjoy some quality time together and is a good opportunity to socialize!

Southern Encounter Aquarium & Kiwi House
Formerly known as the Aquarium of Discovery, the Southern Encounter Aquarium is a walk through of tanks of aquarium with rare fishes and sea creatures. Documentaries and films are aired for viewers to educate them about sea and bird life. The attraction offers various things to do including watching feeding time at the aquarium, see fly-tying demonstrations, getting your hands wet in touch tank and observation of nocturnal brown kiwis.

International Antarctic Centre
Experience the Antarctic way of life in Christchurch at the International Antarctic center. Fulfill your dream of getting on a snow mobile and racing across snow land here at the center which is fully acclimatized to the polar weather conditions. Inside you will find penguins, leopard seals, snow caves and a depiction of how life is at the Antarctic. The 4D cinema will take you on a thrilling icy adventure of one of its kind.
The Antarctic Hagglund Ride is a new addition which gives a 15minutes tour of the place and is very famous with children.

Orana Wildlife Park
Orana Wildlife is New Zealand’s largest wildlife conservation project. Set on 80 hectares of park like ground, this is an open zoo where animals from within the country and abroad are taken care and kept in open spaces to imitate their natural habitat. The park serves as a sanctuary for over 400 animals from 70 different species but if you are in a hurry you can take a quick 40minute tour in the park’s shuttle.
Run by a charity trust, the wildlife park is dedicated to preserving nature’s bounties which is in line with the name ‘orana’ meaning place of refugee.
A particular favorite for children who can fondle and feed the tamed animals.
