What to do with Children in Tow
Berlin is a fairly child-friendly city with many things to occupy the kids. When going sightseeing, remember to watch for your children as it is easy to lose them in the crowds, particularly if their attention is easily caught by interesting sights.
It is very common to go out in Berlin for breakfast or brunch and many restaurants can have indoor playgrounds or other supervised activities for children.
-Most of the tourist sights, such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the museum island and the TV tower will be interesting for kids as well, so you can take them along.
- Going to the Tiergarten (Berlin's central park) for a picnic would also be a good idea to entertain children. This green oasis covers a vast area of more than 630 acres, plenty of spots to choose from.
-The Berlin Zoological gardens in Hardenbergplatz will be a treat for any child. The zoo is the oldest in Germany, opened in 1844 and houses 15000 animals. There is a petting zoo for the kids and sometimes special family offers are announced that will allow you to get cheaper tickets. Without any concession, tickets are €12 for the zoo or the aquarium, but the much more valuable ‘Kombiticket’ that allows passage to both the areas is €18. Telephone: 25 40 10. -Hire some bikes and go for a bike tour with the children. They will enjoy it more than a tourbus.
-Find interesting German food for them to try. The ‘Berliner’, a jam doughnut encrusted with sugar is a good local sweet. It tends to be called Pfannkuchen (pancake) in Berlin, however.
