Parc du Mont Royal

ImageCentral Park, Hyde Park, Jardin d’Luxembourg, Chapultapec – Parc du Mont Real stands alongside any of the world’s great parks.  Mont Real (or Mount Royal) is one of the city’s great icons.  Jacques Cartier scaled the peak when he arrived in 1535, naming it for the king of France.  The hill has served as a beacon for the city ever since.  It stands 233m at its peak, a height that no buildings in the city are allowed to surpass.

The park itself was designed in the 1880s by Frederick Law Olmsted, the famed landscape architect.  It contains lots of green space, walking path, bike paths, a cemetery, a ski slope, and an artificial lake.  Check out the information center to find out all the activities available.  The park also plays host to different sporting and cultural events.

This is a park for all seasons, whether it’s leafing in the autumn, skiing in the winter, or hiking in the summer.  Or you can simply enjoy the lush landscape and the spectacular views of Montreal.  No visit to Montreal is complete without a trip to Parc du Mont Real.
